The Systems Engineer I – Epic ODBA will be responsible for building, monitoring, and maintaining the Epic ODB and MGB Enterprise IRIS database environments. This includes ensuring the stability and performance of critical business and clinical applications in a 24/7 healthcare environment, with shared on-call responsibilities. The role will focus on improving the manageability and supportability of the Epic and MGB-developed application platforms, minimizing system downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and manage Epic ODB environments (production, reporting, training, non-production).
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and special updates for Epic environments and related platforms.
- Ensure MGB IRIS application platforms are well-maintained through monitoring, upgrades, and support.
- Analyze system performance data for capacity planning and performance optimization.
- Research technical issues and system maintenance practices.
- Automate IRIS administration tasks through UNIX scripting.
- Test new versions of system and database software.
- Develop and document procedures for database administration.
- Participate in weekly on-call rotation for system support.
- Collaborate with Epic analysts and application developers, offering guidance and support.
- Present system designs and proposed changes to the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Experience managing Epic ODB environments and certification preferred.
- 5+ years of IRIS database administration experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing IRIS system maintenance scripts.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux system administration and scripting preferred.
- Knowledge of performance analysis and capacity planning.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Working Conditions:
- Office or cubicle environment, with occasional remote work.
- Regular on-call rotation (7×24), including carrying an electronic pager and remote issue resolution.
- Occasional travel to multiple sites within metropolitan Boston.
- Limited physical activities such as lifting light to medium-weight objects and handling cables.
